Spur Gear Pump from Viking at Kelair Pumps Australia

Case Study

Viking's spur gear pumps perfect for viscous oil
Kelair's client required
pumps to incorporate two
portable oil filter carts
which were to be used in a
mobile application.
The oil is new but has to be
filtered for use in engines
on large mining machinery.
The oil is quite viscous at
460cSt and the pumps had
to deliver the oil at 8bar
discharge pressure to meet
the requirements of the
filter.
Because the carts are portable
the overall physical
size of the pumps would be
important and motors
would be 240v/50Hz single
phase.
The pumps were required
to deliver 32 L/min and
69L/min.
For 32 L/min we selected
a Viking SG-0716 spur gear
pump with Viton lip seals
and iron bushes. A 2.2kW
6 - pole (950 rpm)
240v/50Hz motor was
sourced.
To meet space requirements
a bell housing was
used to couple the pump to
the motor rather than a
traditional baseplate and
guard.
For the 69 L/min application
we selected a Viking
SG-0722 spur gear pump
set up in a similar manner
to the first pump but with a
4-pole (1450rpm) motor to
meet the duty requirement.
As lead time was critical
the pumps were placed
on the Viking quick
shipment programme to
ensure they were delivered
on time.
