Method two is popular in new homes because the unit is plumbed directly
into the waste pipe and overflow is plumbed directly to sewer. As the
NovaBox fills, the pump starts and immediately pumps waste water to where
it is required. The benefits of this approach over the laundry tub fixing
are that there is very little chance of harsh bleaches or other foreign
matter eg. Nappy residue, finding its way into the greywater system.
Generally, a manifold of slotted ag-drain is buried under lawn and/or garden
beds as permanent pipework and unslotted ag-drain is used to connect from
the slotted sections to the pump. Accordingly, the NovaBox meets all EPA
rules for greywater use and storage in that it does not hold greywater for
more than 24 hours and all discharge is below the ground surface.
In both installation methods the pump can be turned off by the homeowner
from a designated 3 pin plug or hard wired switch. This is important during
periods of high rainfall where the ground may become sodden and not drain
away any greywater that is pumped.
