Timber Floor Finishes from Sydney Flooring

Finishing Touches
The Long term good looks of your floor start with the right finish...

At Sydney Flooring we leave nothing to chance. The long term good looks of your floor will be further enhanced by choosing the correct finishing method.

Being a "living" product, timber flooring will expand and contract with varying humidity conditions. This is a natural phenomenon and it is important to allow the boards to move freely. With this in mind Sydney Flooring recommend and use products which will not cause edge bonding. (A term which is used to describe the effect of boards sticking together and not allowing natural movement).

We advise against the use of polyurethane products because in some situations it may cause edge bonding between boards. Typically we finish the floor using a traditional Tung oil based seal which is environmentally friendly. Tung oil seal is a combination of synthetic resins, driers and oils which are designed to penetrate deeply into the pores of the timber itself. After the seal has cured, typically 3-4 days, it is advisable to apply a suitable floor finish, usually an acrylic based mop-on polish.
